Owlchemy Labs today revealed its new VR game: Dimensional Double Shift. In the vein of the studio’s previous games, the new title is a job simulation game; however, unlike previous titles, it is also a multiplayer game, featuring co-op for up to four players. The game’s open beta, dubbed “The Trainee Program,” launches on September 26 for Meta Quest headsets as part of its early access release.
According to Owlchemy, the game takes place at an interstellar diner/service station called the Gas ‘N Grill. Players have to run both the diner and the garage simultaneously, working together to cook and serve food to extradimensional beings and aliens while simultaneously servicing their spacefaring vehicles. The game’s big selling point is the complex hand interactions, as players must manage various complex tasks at the Gas ‘N Grill, while hopping several dimensions to do so.
Andrew Eiche, Owlchemy CEO, said in a statement, “Owlchemy is known for its highly polished, technically advanced, and comical titles. Dimensional Double Shift has everything players love about our games, but takes it one step further with multiplayer, so you can share the experience with friends. Hand tracking makes everything much more intuitive, now you can focus purely on the game rather than having to worry about pressing the right buttons. Players can throw stuff around, banter over who’s the better fry cook, and collaborate to complete each objective. The world is your oyster; all we did is build it for you.”
Dimensional Double Shift can’t be played single-player, according to the game’s FAQ. At its early access launch, players can access the base game and its first world, Treeatle, for free. Owlchemy has not yet revealed the game’s full launch date.
