Was the first level of Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone or Bridge Zone? You will need to know that and more if you fancy a shot at a new job Sega is advertising.

The role of Archivist, Lore is up for grabs if you are willing to relocate, or already live in Burbank, California. The quoted salary of $100-$130k salary may sweeten the moving fee.

The job description reads like a Sega fanboy’s dream, saying, “Reporting to the Sr. Director of Lore and Creative Strategy, the Transmedia West Team is seeking an Archivist to support the growing needs of our team. In documenting Sonic’s storied history (past, present, and future!), you will be critical to the preservation of Sonic lore, canon, characters, and universes, helping to bring consistency, connectivity, and creativity to all things Sonic across various forms of media including games, animation, comics, and more. This role will interface closely with teams around the world.”

With so much Sonic lore to cover spread across decades of gaming, there will definitely be plenty of interesting subject matter that can be discovered across the globe.

At a time when it always seems that game publishers do not give two hoots about video game preservation, it is glorious to see this being given the respect it deserves. Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic gaming characters of all time and the job, like any these days, is sure to be in high demand.

To give yourself the best chance at career progression you need to have a Library and Information Science related degree and some Japanese language skills are listed as a plus. Most important of all, however. Sega is looking for somebody who is “Extremely well-versed in all things Sonic (lore, characters, games, animations, comics, movies, etc).”

Still you? Then you can find the job listing right here.
