Alibaba Cloud and Nvidia have announced they’re collaborating to develop an advanced AI solution for autonomous driving.
This merging of two powerhouses in the AI industry marks a significant moment as they’re teaming up to improve upon and bring progress to autonomous driving.
It was on September 20 when Alibaba shared further details through a news release which has been translated into English.
Alibaba Cloud’s large language model series Qwen will be integrated into Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin platform. The aim is to enhance in-car voice assistants so they can conduct more dynamic conversations and even provide suggestions based on visual and environmental data.
“The solution is jointly developed by Alibaba Cloud, NVIDIA and Alibaba’s intelligent cockpit solution provider Zebra, and will be launched to Chinese automakers. It can provide a better interactive experience for car owners and is redefining intelligent travel.”
Alibaba and Nvidia team up with future plans unveiled
This is the first time Alibaba Cloud’s large AI models will be incorporated into Nvidia’s Drive automotive platform, the latter of which is already being used by several major Chinese electric vehicle makers.
“NVIDIA’s model acceleration technology greatly reduces computing costs and minimizes the delay when processing complex tasks in real time on the Alibaba Cloud model. This can ensure that both drivers and passengers can enjoy an unimpeded intelligent experience.”
In the press release, the company writes that “Alibaba Cloud’s Mobile Agent (multimodal AI agent for end-side devices) will be able to expand the functions of in-vehicle voice assistants.”
They go on to say that the Mobile Agent will assist with complex task planning, thinking, and decision-making with users able to use voice commands for actions like “buying milkshakes through delivery apps, so as to get a richer and more pleasant in-car experience.”
The AI-focused duo also have plans to integrate the Qwen model into Nvidia’s next-generation Drive Thor platform. This is to achieve advanced driving assistance, autonomous driving, and more intelligent cockpit functionality.
